Mick Barry Cup 2018
1. The Mick Barry Cup will be run on a format similar to the Dutch Champions Tour & European Championships, with three opportunities to qualify, on three separate days at Ballincurrig
a. Sunday July 21st
b. Sunday August 18th
c. Sunday August 25th
2. The competition is open to all affiliated senior bowlers, not otherwise qualified.
3. All participants will be placed into scores of two or three players, depending on the number of entries. These will be announced in advance.
4. All scores will be played from the start to finish line as normal.
5. Where possible, different sets of players shall be selected for each subsequent score, to ensure a mix of opponents for every participant.
6. Penalties
a. If a player oversteps his tip by up to one metre a penalty of one meter shall be recorded for that throw and his next tip will be measured back one metre
b. If a player oversteps his tip by more than a metre then he loses that shot
7. Points will be allocated for:
a. Competition points will be allocated to each player depending on where he finished overall:
i. 15 competition points for the player who goes furthest overall: e.g. 1st = 15 points; 2nd = 14 points; 3rd = 13 points etc. down to 15th = 1 point.
ii. Players who finish 16th or lower in the overall ranking shall get 0 points
b. The player who wins his individual score also gets an additional 3 points (Score Points).
c. The player's overall score, each day, will be the sum of the his overall placing and his score points, e.g.:
i. A player who wins his score and is first overall will get 18 points: 15 + 3 = 18 points
ii. A player who finishes 4th overall and wins his score will get a total of 15 points: 12 + 3 = 15.
iii. A player who finishes second overall, but loses his score will get 14 points: 14 + 0 = 14
8. Players will be given their best two results from three days of competition
9. The top four players will progress to the knockout stage, the semi-finals of the Mick Barry Cup.
10. Each score will have a card, like in Golf. Players are collectively responsible for recording the number of shots, and each player has to sign at the end of the score.
11. Any player falsifying his own score or colluding in the falsification of the score of another player, will be automatically excluded from the 2018 Mick Barry Cup.
12. Signed cards will be handed to the Competition Marshall.
13. Competition Starter
a. Shall allocate players to score groups of three
b. Hand one score card to each score group
c. Hand bowls to the players (no coin toss)
d. Allocate an official markers to each score group (who shall carry a spare bowl)
e. Instruct players to start and indicate the order in which they throw the first bowl.
14. Competition Marshall
a. Shall record the order in which players have completed their scores and allocate overall points.
b. Shall record the position each player has finished in his individual score.
c. Produce an overall score sheet for each day's competition
15. In the case of an overall tie:
a. a player with higher score points shall trump a player on the same points with lower score points
b. if players are tied on on both overall competition and score points, the player who has done better in their head-to-head scores will trump
c. where neither option resolves a tie, the players will be given an equal ranking if it does not impact the overall competition.
d. Where it is necessary to resolve a tie for qualification purposes the players concerned shall play a head-to-head score as agreed by the committee.
